About Prosecutorial Independence

Our Goal:

The goal of this website on Prosecutorial Independence is to provide resources to preserve and strengthen prosecutorial independence and enhance the American public’s understanding of the prosecutor’s critical role in maintaining the integrity of the criminal justice system.

Why is this important?

The role of a prosecutor is to protect the public. They do this by using their discretion when deciding who to charge and with what crimes to charge them. Recently, lawmakers have injected their own will into this important process, compromising the independence of prosecutors. Invasions upon the practice of prosecutorial independence threaten the function of the judicial system. A system crafted to ensure justice and equality are afforded to all.

Our Purpose:

We seek to provide a forum for the exchange of information regarding prosecutorial independence. Through the education of our communities we can reinforce the integrity of this practice.

Affiliation:

This website is not affiliated with the American Bar Association, although members may serve on the ABA Criminal Justice Task Force for Prosecutorial Independence.
